Had nice windless warm quiet night three or four guys and Mark and Holly a couple from Oregon camp nearby and left before us. I made a coffee and was happy for an early start. Bring on the huge five dollar breakfast burrito!!! met Steve “Vapor” and Paul “photo” and Pierre on trail also walked with Mark and Holly to warner. Annie showered as I chatted with Patty and Kay who are double zeroing. I picked up our package at the PO. great to shower and clean up. got dorky loaner bathing suits and enjoy the big pool hot Springs! water kind is sulfury. too many kids but great anyway! I got a little too much sun on my face. only a week and I’m crazy tan!
Laundry!! food organization and dinner with the other hikers I had a veggie burger with bacon and cheese with sweet potato Fries we lost weight this week. Great to sleep in a bad way past my hikers bedtime.

    Hey WD,

My friend and I decided about three days ago that we are going to attempt a thru-hike of the PCT in 2012! I’m super duper excited. 🙂 I plan on reading your blog through your entire trip, but I was just curious as to what double zeroing is… I’m gonna feel silly if it’s something I should definitely know about (PCT is going to be my first long distance hike!). Anywho, thanks for blogging! I’m sure I’ll comment on your posts as I read them…

A zero day means you hike zero miles. So you got to town the day before, spent the night, all next day and night. So a double zero…
Have fun with your researching the trail, formulating your gear list, and all that. It’s a whole lot of thinking and planning. Remember, a thru-hike is 90% mental, 10% physical. Enjoy!
