Day 59 to Death Cyn Crk

Day 59, june 12, about 20 mi to Death Canyon Creek (mi 731.6)

More like Death-by-Mosquito Cyn Crk…

Beautiful morning! Started hiking 7am. Heck of a place to wake up! I took a late morning break at the bridge over S. Fork Kern River. Swallows nest under it and swirl and chirp, a delight. But, uh, do collect water UPstream! Chilly and Pounder joined me. Incredibly scenic meadows followed, the mtns looming behind. Very cool to inch toward them. Slowly.

Some snow, mostly patches near the top of the 10,500′ er. Used microspikes a bit at the top for a longer snowy descent. Mushy though, didn’t really need them. Easy pleasant descent to Death Cyn. But the Mosquitos got voracious whenever I’d stop at all. It will get so much worse though soon enough! Camped near the guys, would have been nice to push a bit further, but this is the lowest elevation and last water for awhile. Seems like a nice quiet spot to at least sleep like the dead?!
