peakbagging Wheeler Peak, NM

I climbed this mountain when in I lived in Taos in late 2010, I did the more popular “Bull of the Woods” trail 8 miles each way from the ski valley.

So THIS time I took the less popular way via Horseshoe Lake, it was awesome!  There’s a super cute ski/hike town called Red River that has a killer burrito joint, I picked up a great breakfast burrito for the road, and on the wall is a Backpacker magazine for the same hike I did, mentioning this burrito joint.  Apparently all backpackers think alike. Here’s pics from the adventure on Aug 11-12, 2012.  We had some rain, lots of thunder but nothing electrical.  Enjoyed dinner together and napping in the tent as it rained and the sun went down, it cleared up for stargazing and wishing on the Perseiad meteor shower.
