Santa Fe Baldy/Skyline Trail/Penitente/Lake Peaks

nice 26-hour outing!  You can watch a video HERE

ImageFrom Santa fe ski basin I took the 254 Winsor trail up to Summit Baldy, then switchbacked down to Lake Katherine to camp (arrived after dark)  had a slow morning and went over to Stewart Lake, which is real nice!  And had a hot lunch at the stream 1/2 mile back up trail.  On to Spirit Lake, killer camping spots there and decided to take a different way back- I’d always wanted to climb Penitente Peak, but didn’t know exactly where it was (more where the ski slope are) so I found it via the super awesome Skyline Trail (which is a 60 mile trail that goes North thru Truchas to Taos!  (soon!) and went up Penitente and the supercool Lake Peak, all rock scramble goodness!  Then ploughed down the steep 2,000′ under the ski lifts and on their dirt work roads.  Quad-buster.

That’s SF Baldy there, the first glimpse from the Winsor Trail
ImageYou hang a left to bag the peak.  Then switchback down on the Skyline 251 to Lake Katherine
